8/18/2023 0 Comments Stingray rc submarine![]() ![]() This is probably my favourite part of the sub! With this kit, I noticed that a lot of the parts provided weren't that practical at sealing the valuable components against the elements, the motor compartment wasn't an exception. Solution: I used some cut off section off an empty pen ink tube, these just happened to fit just right!! The wires were not that sqeezed enough to ensure a water tight seal but a quick drop of Superglue here and there fixed that problem.Īs you can see, I'm going into a lot of details building this little sub, just so that the next person converting it will know what to do. I tried to enlarge the holes by drilling through them, but they still weren't enough to accept those tubes, I could've still enlargened them further but then again the next drill size would've been too big. Well, after a few attempts, I noticed that this was actually impossible due to the size of the holes and the thickness of the tubes with the wire in them. Moreover, the instructions also recommended me to pass the battery wires through flexible rubber tubes, which are then squeezed through two holes on the hatch's top on the other side of the hull. ![]() I assembled the battery contacts and their supports according to the kit's instructions. Tonight, I did some work on the battery hatch and propulsion unit. This would allow me to fit the RC circuit board and its watertight housing with ease. After doing a dryfit of the hull, I realized that my best chance of getting some space would be to increase the height of the model slightly by adding and gluing some styrene strips to the bottom half of the hull. I can already see that this is going to be a challenge. The battery compartment and motor housing take up just about half of that height. The model itself measures about 10 inches in length, 3 inches beam, and about 2 inches high. However, by looking at the kit from a closer point of view, I realized that the materials needed to waterproof the battery compartment and motor housing were all provided!! Oh heck, let's just RC this thing!!! īelow you can see some of the parts and pieces (without sprues) provided by the manufacturer. At first, I figured I'd just build this kit as a motorized pool toy like it was originally designed to be. The kit was produced by a Chinese model company (CCLEE) and so far, I haven't seen any versions of the kit available here, in North America. I have just received a kit of Gerry Anderson's famous submarine, Stingray. ![]()
